Made from the Random Assembly of Four Pieces of Natural Oak

Michael Anastassiades has designed a new woodwork collection called Rings for Mutina. The modules resemble porcelain “tiles” but are constructed from the random assembly of four pieces of natural oak, cut in sections using a process known as “cross-cutting”. The product enables non-oriented flooring, in which the grains are distributed randomly.

Anastassiades was inspired by the world of industrial flooring, which is defined by layers of waste that build over time and are eventually absorbed into the surface. To honor this involuntary process, Anastassiades created two collection variations: one in natural oak (Plain) and one in natural oak with little inserts of aged délabré finish (Brass).

“I wanted to create something similar to an industrial flooring, using the end grain of the wood. I then added the brass element as a reference to the accidental intrusions that are layered into that type of wood with use. Therefore, it is a symbolic reference rather than a decoration. And it gives the wood an unexpected shine in unexpected places.”Michael Anastassiades.

Rings is available in 2 variants: Plain and Brass. Made of natural oaks modules measuring 17.5 x.17.5 cm and 15 mm in thickness. The inserted brass measures 1 x 5 cm.
