A Contemplative Experience Guided by Light, Movement, and Emotion

The cultural rhythm of the city shifts this week as Museum MACAN unveils Olafur Eliasson: Your Curious Journey, a sweeping presentation of more than three decades of the Danish–Icelandic artist’s influential practice. Opening 29 November 2025 and running through 12 April 2026, the exhibition unfolds within the museum’s signature sunlit calm and contemporary warmth—an inviting, lifestyle-infused escape where art reshapes how we see, feel, and move through the world.

Olafur Eliasson

Inside the galleries, the universe of Olafur Eliasson comes alive through light, water, fog, mirrors, shadows, and invisible forces that transform into sensorial encounters. Each work encourages visitors to move, pause, and reorient themselves, completing the artwork through their own curiosity. Exclusive Jakarta presentations expand the narrative further, offering perspectives unique to this edition at Museum MACAN.

From the kaleidoscopic Multiverses and futures (2017) to immersive installations that explore ecological interconnection, Eliasson’s language is clear: art is a living experience shaped by those who step into it. As Olafur Eliasson notes, “The artworks are only ever complete when you, the viewer, engage with them… These works invite you to re-examine your perceptions of yourself, the museum, and the world.”

Museum MACAN’s Director, Venus Lau, reinforces this vision, “We are honored to present Olafur Eliasson’s transformative exhibition, inviting visitors to rethink their roles as humans within the ongoing process of worlding, perception, and environmental connection.”

The exhibition moves with a warm, lived-in sensibility—soft spatial rhythm, natural lighting, and the gentle hum of families, students, and art lovers exploring each work. It feels less like a formal viewing and more like a cultural ritual woven into the everyday life of Jakarta.

Public programs on opening day include the playful Young & Curious children’s tour and an intimate conversation with Olafur Eliasson himself, further deepening the exhibition’s focus on curiosity, community, and ecological dialogue. Supported by international cultural institutions and local partners, the presentation underscores a shared commitment to environmental awareness and creative collaboration.

Ultimately, Your Curious Journey is an invitation to look again—to rediscover shadow, light, and connection, and to embrace the quiet wonder of being present.
