Venus Lau as its new Director, officially takes role from 1 February 2024
Museum MACAN, a leading contemporary art institution in Southeast Asia, is proud to announce the appointment of Venus Lau as its new Director.
With a wealth of experience from Hong Kong and Greater China including prior roles as Artistic Director of the K11 Art Foundation, and more recently as Art Strategic Director of the Modern (Meta) Media Group based in Shanghai which owns multiple cultural platforms including Nowness, Art Review, and Numero Art China, Lau is poised to lead Museum MACAN into an exciting new chapter of growth and innovation.

With solid experiences in writing and curating, her passion for creating cross-disciplinary dialogues in contemporary art is highlighted through exhibitions that speak to the visual zeitgeist and promise to lend a different perspective to the museum’s direction and drive, as a key institutional pillar in the regional art ecosystem.
“We are thrilled to welcome Venus Lau as the new Director of Museum MACAN. Her deep commitment to contemporary art in Asia, and dedication to fostering cultural engagement in the region align seamlessly with our institution’s focus on high-caliber exhibitions and art accessibility for our community. We believe that Venus will inspire both our museum team and audiences with her ideas, enhancing MACAN‘s stalwart reputation as a key art institution in Southeast Asia,” said Fenessa Adikoesoemo, Chairwoman of the MACAN Foundation.
