A dynamic fusion of Italian design heritage and the sensoriality of French textiles

This year marks a groundbreaking meeting of two visions in outdoor design: Gae Aulenti, who revolutionized the field with her Locus Solus collection in 1964, and Métaphores (sister company of Hermès), unveiling its first indoor-outdoor fabric collection, “L’Échappée.”

Curated by Nina Yashar, founder of Nilufar Gallery and a leading voice in contemporary design, this collaboration bridges heritage and modernity with bold innovation. Set on the terrace of Depot Nilufar, a Milanese design landmark, the exhibition juxtaposes Aulenti’s iconic furniture with Métaphores’ travel-inspired, natural-textured fabrics.

A selection of chairs, tables, and armchairs from Yashar’s private collection, adorned with eclectic patterns, creates a dynamic fusion of Italian design heritage and the sensoriality of French textiles. This unique encounter reimagines outdoor spaces as realms of beauty, conviviality, and poetic escape.

L’Échappée” by Métaphores:
Métaphores reinvents outdoor living with L’Échappée, a collection inspired by great travelers and distant landscapes. Crafted from UV-, salt-, and chlorine-resistant European fibers, these fabrics blend durability with elegance for a refined sensory experience.

Fabric Collections:
Évasion: Woven hemp texture with a subtle polyester backing for durability. Neutral, nature-inspired tones; ideal for seating and curtains.

Équipage: Rope-like texture inspired by ship decks. Earthy tones (leather, graphite, navy) for a bold, architectural look, suited for marine themes.

Canopée: Abstract seaweed and grass-inspired patterns with a boucle finish, evoking a natural sanctuary.

Oasis: Rich, seaside-inspired tapestry with bold foliage patterns in deep blue and garnet red, offering a lush outdoor retreat.

Cocktail: Retro 1960s-70s aesthetic with bold, contrasting patterns in citrus, tequila, and cognac tones, capturing an endless summer vibe.

Each fabric offers a distinct visual and tactile experience, enhancing outdoor spaces with character and style.
