A Table Set in Nature’s Architecture

During Milan Design Week, a poetic dialogue unfolds between porcelain and plants as Laboratorio Paravicini and Berlin-based floral atelier Mary Lennox present Jardin à l’Italienne—an immersive installation where tableware meets the meticulous geometry of the Italian garden.

Rooted in the Renaissance tradition of formal landscaping, the project reinterprets nature not as wild or untamed, but as architecture—structured, rhythmic, and imbued with a quiet theatricality. Each plate, meticulously hand-decorated by Laboratorio Paravicini, becomes a tile in this verdant tableau, turning the dining table into a contemplative landscape of delicate ceramics and classical order.

The installation transforms a historic Milanese courtyard into a lush, sculptural environment. Under the direction of Mary Lennox, living walls and sculpted botanicals redefine the space with a surreal sense of perspective. Carefully constructed volumes in rich greenery mimic the topiary and axial vistas of traditional Italian gardens, while apertures in the foliage invite the eye to wander through imagined depths—a garden within a garden, endlessly unfolding.

Jardin à l’Italienne offers a sublime meditation on stillness, and the cultivated beauty that emerges between craftsmanship and nature converge.
