A Celebration of Heritage, Handcraft, and Decorative Splendour

Jaipur Rugs, India’s largest handmade rug manufacturer and a global leader in artisan craftsmanship, has partnered with esteemed designer Peter D’Ascoli to unveil The Gilded Age—a refined collection of six hand-knotted rugs that reinterprets 19th-century maximalism through a contemporary lens.

Blending historical grandeur with modern sophistication, the collection draws inspiration from Hollywood Regency, chintz florals, neoclassical motifs, paisleys, and wildcat patterns. Each design is available in multiple colourways, showcasing D’Ascoli’s signature layering of pattern, texture, and hue. The aesthetic is equally informed by the opulence of pre-war Parisian flea markets and the enduring allure of handcrafted traditions.

The Gilded Age Collection offers six evocative designs. Belle Epoque, with bold chintz florals reimagined for contemporary interiors. Malmaison, where neoclassical garlands meet leopard print. Leopard & Ocelot, offering a handcrafted, sustainable take on wildcat motifs. Marcellin channels the refined eclecticism of Madeleine Castaing with paisley-filled trellises and jewel-toned geometrics. Kashmir reinterprets traditional paisley in both vibrant and subdued colourways, nodding to centuries-old Indo-European textile traditions. Eugenie (named after the wife of Napoleon III) channels the lavish florals of Napoleon III’s era, elevated by a richly sculpted, carved pile that adds depth and dimension.

D’Ascoli brings over four decades of global experience in textile design to the collaboration and also inclusively oversaw every stage of development, from sourcing fine Bikaner wool to collaborating directly with colourists and artisan weavers. The collection is meticulously hand-knotted and finished in Jaipur Rugs’ specialist workshops, ensuring heirloom quality

Reflecting on the project, D’Ascoli shares:
“I adore heritage, cultural diversity, and handcrafted quality. Our Gilded Age collection is a celebration of those values. Early in my career, I had the extraordinary experience of meeting Madeleine Castaing in Paris—her curated chaos of antiques and textiles left a lasting impression on me. In many ways, this collection is a tribute to her refined eye and timeless taste.”

The Gilded Age offers a collection that bridges past and present—uniting centuries-old Indian craftsmanship with an international decorative sensibility. The collection is a statement of timeless luxury, ready to anchor the most refined interiors.
