Journey Through Frida Kahlo’s Intimate Spaces

Step inside Casa Roja, the historic Kahlo family home in Coyoacán, Mexico City, and enter the intimate world of Frida Kahlo — brought to life by New York–based Rockwell Group. The newly unveiled Museo Casa Kahlo invites visitors not just to observe, but to experience the spaces where Frida lived, created, and dreamed.

In collaboration with Fundación Kahlo’s Creative Director, Ileen Gallagher, and Chief Curator Adriana Miranda, Rockwell Group reimagined the visitor journey: from the welcoming garden to the secret basement studio, a space hidden from the world for decades. Here, Frida’s paintings, personal collections, and objects become storytellers, whispering glimpses of her private life.

Wander through restored galleries and family rooms, then descend into her candlelit sanctuary — a room of quiet reflection where Frida painted, wrote, and collected the small wonders that fascinated her. Dolls, artworks, letters, and even her bug collection create a living mosaic of memory. Inspired by her sketches and love for the natural world, Rockwell’s LAB crafted an interactive microscope replica, letting visitors peer into the miniature universe that once captivated her imagination.

Architectural restoration was led by Mariana Doet Zepeda Orozco, with Pentagram shaping graphic design and visual storytelling. Under the guidance of Director Adán García Fajardo and curator Adriana Miranda, and through this thoughtful collaboration, the museum becomes more than a series of rooms.

It is a multi-sensory journey where domestic intimacy meets artistic imagination, and visitors don’t just see Frida Kahlo—they meet her, in the spaces where she lived, dreamed, and created.
