The design genius of Paavo Tynell meets the artistic flair of Henry Moore

Together, GUBI and GARRO ÉDITIONS have produced a limited-edition lamp that features English sculptor Henry Moore and Finnish lighting icon Paavo Tynell. The lamp creates a useful lighting solution and a collectible homage to these innovative modernist creatives by fusing Moore’s dynamic energy with Tynell’s classic Scandinavian elegance.

‘Our collaboration with GARRO ÉDITIONS honors the legacies of two visionary 20th-century creative figures, both masters in their fields. In this special edition, Paavo Tynell’sexceptional talent for lighting design converges with Henry Moore’s artistic gift, creating a truly extraordinary piece that straddles the border between design and art.’ Marie Kristine Schmidt, CEO, GUBI –

GARRO ÉDITIONS, such as GUBI, honors masterpieces from the 20th century and brings back lost gems for contemporary interior design. They blend the skills of French textile artisans with contemporary art, combining carefully chosen pieces by well-known artists.

The opportunity to feature a textile by Henry Moore on a lamp designed by Paavo Tynell perfectly embodies my vision for GARRO ÉDITIONS. The lamp’s iconic design isan archetype of the era, whereas Moore’s drawing is an exploration of form and movement. What we have here is a blending of sculptural elements, shapes, forms, archetypes, and drawings – all integrated into a functional object.’  Héloïse Garro, founder, GARRO ÉDITIONS –

In 1935, Tynell created the renowned 9602 Floor Lamp for the Hotel Aulanko in Helsinki, Finland. It displays his dedication to natural materials and craftsmanship with its conical cap, polished brass base, and slim rattan-wrapped stem. Perfect for artistic reinterpretation, the oversized lampshade adds a sophisticated playful element.

Henry Moore’s “Haringey Circus Horses”, an impromptu pen-and-ink drawing he made in 1956 while on a circus excursion with his daughter, is featured on a pleated linen shade in the GUBI X GARRO ÉDITIONS 9602 Special Edition. Throughout his career, Moore’s fascination with horses served as inspiration for his artwork.

In just a few strokes, GARRO ÉDITIONS founder Héloïse Garro captured the electric moment when horses enter the ring, full of anticipation, before the circus performance begins in a drawing she chose from the Henry Moore Foundation’s archive.

Tynell’s elegant design is given a dynamic freshness by Moore’s strong lines and pleats in the lamp, which capture tension and movement in the piece. The horses also seem ready to jump off the linen surface.

A one-of-a-kind drawing of “Haringey Circus Horses” on 100% French-woven linen is available from GARRO ÉDITIONS. The fabric’s certification by OEKO-TEX Standard 100, GOTS, and France Terre Textile guarantees environmental responsibility, chemical-free production, and traceability. Moore’s lines are highlighted by the loose weave’s enhancement of light and shadow.

Moore’s artwork from the 9602 Special Edition is turned into textiles, maintaining the integrity of the original drawing while giving the lighting a sculpture-like appearance. Because of its dynamic forms and sleek geometry, the lamp is elevated from a functional design to a work of art, making it a contemporary and expressive statement piece.
