Bespoke Stainless Steel Meets Contemporary Design Culture
In the quiet heart of Venice, away from the usual tourist routes, a project has emerged where memory, precision, and modern vision converge. Perched atop an 18th‑century building in the Castello sestiere, overlooking the city’s rooftops and the dome of the Basilica dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo, this Abimis kitchen exemplifies materiality, functionality, and customization. Crafted entirely from AISI 304 stainless steel and orbitally polished by hand, the bespoke Ego composition asserts a sharp, recognisable presence while engaging the space with an understated charm.

Chosen by a French gallery owner to express her personal vision of home, the Ego kitchen sits among restored wooden beams, terracotta floors, stone shelving, a grand fireplace, and delicate blown glass, dialoguing seamlessly with a setting that preserves the evocative allure of historic Venice. Passionate about traditional Italian cuisine, the owner designed the space to blend professional performance with daily life, where cooking feels effortless and enjoyable. Hand-polished stainless steel, softened through craft-based treatments, adds warmth and texture, making the kitchen not just functional but inviting.

The layout features a central block for cooking and washing, with a continuous worktop flanked by two tall units—one housing a refrigerator, the other a larder. Rounded flush doors, a signature of the Ego line, enhance ergonomics and flow, while stainless steel shelves with integrated glass racks above add both utility and a visual, ‘graphic’ appeal. A dark anthracite wall serves as a dramatic backdrop, highlighting the sculptural quality of the steel and the clean lines of the design.

This Venice project illustrates Ego’s versatility, adapting effortlessly to diverse architectural contexts while maintaining its identity. Curated closely with the owner, every detail results in a kitchen that supports professional-level cooking while remaining a simple, welcoming space—a setting where the act of cooking becomes personal, rewarding, and truly lived-in.
