‘Passion For Metal’

De Castelli is renowned metal furniture made in Italy famous for its craftsmanship and “passion for metal”. In 2023 De Castelli introduced several new collections: GLYPHĒ, XILO, RIPPLE, SENESTESIA, AIRFRAME, MONOLITE AND FOLIO.

All those products show a celebration of metal craftsmanship to the highest level and highlighting the savoir-faire and artisan virtuosity that define De Castelli.

GLYPHĒ
GLYPHĒ is the culmination of De Castelli’s latest research, which involved refining and reinterpreting the ancient technique of metal forging through experimental methods.

Complex and layered processes are applied to brass, which now has a thickness that can be moulded under the combined action of fire and pressure to create a modern aesthetic that exudes elegance and sophistication.

An unprecedented topographical design emerges, featuring unusual patterns, landscape-like effects and impressive geological maps. Thus, surfaces and pieces of furniture are embellished with unique signs, traces, and other distinctive imprints, which are enhanced and sculpted using various treatments.

XILO Design by Delineo Design studio
Inspired by the refined, sinuous aesthetics of Art Nouveau, the Xilo coffee table is a veritable sculpture in metal that exalts the handcrafted techniques and manufacturing excellence of the company. Three sheets of thick brass, rounded at the ends and of different lengths, have been folded and abutted irregularly to create rhythmic movement. Each element features a distinct weave of imprints that dissolve in delicately fading marks, in contrast to the polished brass surface.

The impressions on the surface of Xilo are the memory of manual manufacturing methods, evidence of the advanced artisanal capacity of De Castelli, the fruit of tireless research into the material.

RIPPLE Design by Marco Pisati
The Ripple cabinet is inspired by the fluidity and adaptability of water, and the texture of metal, expertly worked by the company. The result is a sinuous, polymorphous volume in which soft lines generate reflections upon a metal surface shaped by the artisan processes of De Castelli.

Though it appears impenetrable, the cabinet reveals two storage spaces within, like a treasure chest, hidden from sight thanks to the concave fronts which have been designed to open 180 degrees. Like an object sculpted and polished by the slow, continuous undulating movement of water, Ripple is a sculpture to admire from all angles, walking around it to follow its defining curves, the reverberations of metal, and the shadows tempered by its surfaces.

SINESTESIA Design by TIPSTUDIO
A series of curved brass sheets form the base of Sinestesia encapsulating the solidity and expressiveness of metal.

With rounded edges, the leaf-like top of the console rests on the curvature of the metal sheets below, playing with positive and negative space to define the essential structure of this piece. Profound depths and airy geometries define this console which, through its surfaces, emphasises the expressive potential and sensory nature of brass, celebrating De Castelli’s metalworking savoir-faire.

The unique finishing on the inner surface of the vertical elements, inspired by natural erosion processes, highlights the contrast with the polished outer surface and underscores the essential geometric contours of the piece.

AIRFRAME Design by Pio&Tito Toso
The Airframe bookcase celebrates the art of hammered metal, highlighting the savoir-faire and artisan virtuosity that define De Castelli.

Its aerodynamic shape outlines a fine metal structure made of asymmetrical elliptical loops, supporting four discontinuous horizontal shelves. The outer shell is composed of a partial covering that has been expertly shaped to the structure. Micro architecture that makes any space more refined, adding a dramatic element to interiors.

MONOLÌTE Design by TIPSTUDIO
Monolìte is an architectonic partition that, like a solid body smoothed by nature’s erosive elements, evokes geological formations along its surface.

This partition is a vertical element constituted by two symmetrical, concave brass metal sheets that come together at the back. Within they conceal a light source, which shines mysteriously from a hidden crevice.

Sharp contrast between the rough, uneven texture of the inner surface, and the outer surface, with its notably smooth and reflective brushed finishing, defines the partition.

FOLIO design by Draw Studio
The Folio table is a pure, precise shape characterised by perpendicular planes of metal sheet. A rational sculpture that, thanks to the strength of its aesthetics, exalts the material in perfectly reflective surfaces.

A scenic presence, as simple as it is bold, defines this table, made with thick sheets placed on parallel levels, an exclusive design choice that defines both the base and the large rectangular top. The equidistant sheets of metal punctuate the shape of Folio, giving rise to an interesting interplay of deep shadows, in contrast to the light reflected upon the horizontal plane.
