Haute couture as the altar where the myth transmutes into body, matter, fabric.

For the Spring 2026 haute couture season, Alessandro Michele presented Specula Mundi (Latin for “mirror of the world”) for Valentino as a theatrical meditation on spectacle and perception. The presentation unfolded within a scenography inspired by the 19th-century Kaiserpanorama, where guests observed each look through small viewing apertures, slowing the act of looking and turning the runway into an optical ritual.

Visually, the collection embraced Michele’s signature maximalism: bias-cut satin gowns, velvet capes with trailing trains, Grecian lamé drapery, and elaborate feathered headdresses that evoked the mythology of Old Hollywood glamour. Embroidery, rhinestones, and ornate embellishment layered each silhouette with cinematic excess, transforming models into near-mythic figures.

Specula Mundi celebrated couture as spectacle and fantasy. The result was a deliberately extravagant vision.
