At Milan Design Week 2023

The Signature Kitchen Suite showroom is hosting an immersive tour, at Milan Design Week, open to the public that explores the most innovative practices in digital agriculture to give food a better, more sustainable future, in line with the True to Food philosophy.

The experience will be completed with tastings of foods and beverages selected by Italian food producers who are already testing the technologies presented and coordinated by the Italian National Research Council (NRC), which aim for higher food quality, greater consumer safety and lesser wasting of resources.

This occasion will see the preview of S K I N S Wine Cabin, a fine undertop wine cellar designed by m2 atelier for Signature Kitchen Suite.

Signature Kitchen Suite, the premium appliance brand of the LG Electronics Group, will be opening the doors of its design showroom at 47 Via Manzoni to the public during Milano Design Week. Visitors are invited to discover True to Food Lab, an immersive path through some of the most interesting digital agriculture innovations that are rewriting the future of the food supply chain in a more sustainable way for people and the environment.

With its “True to Food” philosophy, the brand is promoting a more conscious consumption of food and at the same time is a spokesperson for production realities that are proponents of innovation, tradition and quality. Signature Kitchen Suite collaborated this year with the NRC’s Institute for BioEconomy (IBE), to identify five projects corresponding to new technologies that are already being used or tested by Italian and European farmers.

Visitors will be able to experience these innovations first hand and find out how they work and will also be able to taste the fruits of the labour of these cutting-edge businesses, as a selection of foods and beverages will be offered.

“Being True to Food means having an honest and transparent approach to food, respecting it to its essence. For Signature Kitchen Suite, this translates, on the one hand, into the creation of high-performance appliances that can provide the highest levels of conservation and greater precision in cooking and washing and, on the other hand, into the ability to act as a sounding board for good practices that will make farming more sustainable through technology. We hope that the experience offered during the Fuorisalone will inspire the public and increase everyone’s knowledge about these issues,” says Manuela Ricci, Marketing Manager of Signature Kitchen Suite.

In the showroom, visitors will be introduced to some of LG’s most innovative products, including the full range of Signature Kitchen Suite built-in appliances, which combine smart technology with sophisticated design. S K I N S Wine Cabin, a refined cabinet designed by the studio m2 atelier, will be previewed as an elegant piece of storage furniture to be used as undertop wine cabinet, one of Signature Kitchen Suite‘s newest and most versatile products.

Five projects designed for True to Food
Signature Kitchen Suite presents five projects coordinated by the NRC’s IBE and supported by national and international projects as well as private companies. At the end of the tour, visitors will be asked to vote for their favourite project, which will receive support for further development from Signature Kitchen Suite.
For better water management
New technological solutions for agriculture use drones, satellite imagery, and agricultural weather stations to save 15% – 20% of water compared to the traditional irrigation system, which more accurately detect the exact amount of water needed by the soil and irrigate only when and where needed.
For more sustainable production
An innovative, low-cost device has been designed to non-evasively detect the presence of possible mould in apple cores. It helps farmers and food companies, on the one hand, to bring only good-quality fruit to market and, on the other hand, to set aside fruit unsuitable for marketing for other purposes, such as field fertilization. This system prevents food waste in a preventive way.
For healthier and more wholesome food
A simple, inexpensive and intuitive app supports cereal growers and is useful for making a preliminary diagnosis of the health status of cereal crops. With a simple photograph, it detects the presence of pests or diseases in the crop; it defines the best way to intervene, thus avoiding the abuse of synthetic products when unnecessary and ensuring that healthier, more wholesome foods are grown.
For harvesting at the right time
One system uses artificial intelligence in viticulture through tools such as drones, image analysis, object detection, and machine learning to map the ground and to assess the best time to harvest wine grapes, so as to ensure better product quality and more efficient vineyards.

For safer and more conscious consumption
Blockchain technology is applied to food to track the food and beverage supply chain in order to protect consumers and help them choose the most wholesome foods. It unambiguously certifies origin and product quality and helps to track and ensure transparency of the entire production chain.
